We
decided to skip climbing up Galehead Mtn, leaving and traveling as fast as we
could, considering Muffin’s legs and the slippery trail conditions. It
took us about a half hour to reach the Gale River Trail.
The
trip down was long and tiring. At one river crossing, Muffin got stuck on
a rock and was afraid to jump across. I tried to help her, but I slipped
and ended up in to my ankles myself. My boots instantly turned into two buckets.
The next two crossings were uneventful. One was very shallow, and other
had a nice bridge over it.
We
made to the bottom at about 1:10, with fifteen minutes to spare. I sat on
the bench by the shuttle stop and waited. It was now nice and sunny and
warm. Muffin lay down in the grass and didn’t want to move. Soon,
the shuttle arrived. There was no one on it except the driver and another
AMC employee. He agreed to take us back to our car, even though the North Twin
trailhead wasn’t a regularly scheduled stop.
On
the way home, we stopped in Lincoln to look for some souvenirs, and got
supper at McDonald’s. Muffin had a hamburger, which she was almost too
tired to eat. After that, we left for home. At home, I discovered that
Muffin had a scrape under one of her front legs, but it wasn’t serious
and she was back to normal within a couple of days.

where I slipped while trying to help Muffin. |
