The
fog obscured much of the higher mountain scenery, but we could see the
ridge coming down from Mt Lincoln, with occasional glimpses higher
up.
Further
up, we came to the section known as the Agonies, a series of
very steep sections in the ridge. Muffin couldn’t make it up the
steepest ledge, so we had to carry her.
By
the time we reached Greenleaf Hut, the fog had gotten really thick. In
fact, we couldn’t even see the hut from the trail and almost passed by
it. We were tired and a little chilly and damp, so we went into the hut,
found a table, and bought some some
nice hot lentil soup that the
croo made for lunch. The soup was a welcome addition to our
cold bag lunches. We rested for a while, then bought some long-sleeve Greenleaf t-shirts as souvenirs. Our
shirts were a bit damp, so we changed into the new dry shirts.
While
we were inside, poor Muffin had to wait outside, tied up, but with a nice
fresh bowl of water that she had been carrying. After lunch, we went
outside and someone took our picture for us on the hut's porch. The fog
was so thick now that we couldn’t even get good pictures because the
camera had trouble focusing.
After
the picture, we started back. Holly took a picture of me and Muffin by the
trail sign, which also had trouble being out of focus because of the mist.
There
were no good views on the way down as there were climbing up because the
fog had rolled down into the valleys. After we got back to the car, we
headed to some gift shops, to McDonald’s for supper, then left for home.
